Welcome to the Book Club: Miu Miu launches “Summer Reads” project

This weekend, the iconic Italian brand is taking over kiosks, newsstands and bookshops on Friday and Saturday in the most beautiful locations in Milan, Paris, London, New York, Seoul, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Tokyo.

What could be better than reading in a park? At the beach? At a cafe? Or just at home in bed or your beloved armchair? If you love books as much as Miuccia Prada does (she reads hundreds) of them, Miu Miu prepared a summer surprise for you.

Only available during this weekend - on 7 June and 8 June - eight pop-up spaces worldwide will feature customized Miu Miu literary spaces. Think the kiosks on the Seine in Paris, a typical newsstand in Central Milan, an independent magazine store in New York, or a retro car parked in Covent Garden in London.

There, you could find (and be gifted) three masterpieces, chosen by Miuccia Prada herself: Alba de Céspedes’s “Forbidden Notebook”, Sibilla Aleramo’s “A Woman”, and Jane Austen’s “Persuasion”.

Why does Miccuia want you to read these books? According to the brand’s statement: “Each text was selected for its author’s brave and powerfully influential status as female creator. All their work, continually reappraised, explores concerns and ideologies that remain relevant to this day. Their voices are unique, a reflection on the lives of extraordinary women - lives as daughters, lovers, wives, mothers - as expressed through the written word. Breaking with convention and the boundaries of gender, they are united as an inspiration to every generation of women that comes after them.”

A beautiful feminist initiative, which goes in line with Miu Miu’s inaugural Literary Club “Writing Life” during the Salone del Mobile in Milan in April, and a perfect reason to go outside and enjoy the weekend, while reading a masterpiece.
