Miuccia Prada closed Paris Fashion Week with another powerful fashion statement, where she tried to find an answer to the question of what is true and what is false. Her solution? A wardrobe of perfectly simple, functional yet endlessly elegant clothes. From Goshka Macuga’s art installation mimicking a newspaper plant and Willem Dafoe’s return to the catwalks to the key pieces from the collection - here is everything you need to know about the Miu Miu Spring-Summer 2025 show.
THE TRUTH OF THE YOUTH
One of the greatest fashion philosophers of our generation, this time Miuccia Prada explores the concept of the truth. What is real? What is an illusion? And how do we feel about it in the times of over-information? In Miu Miu world, the only moment when we don’t lie to ourselves is the very beginning of our paths - the youth, when every individual is honest to themselves and to their ideals. So that’s why the simplicity in clothing - like the opening mini dress in white cotton - can offer clarity and precision in the chaos of misinformation. Other essential elements of the youthful wardrobe include raincoats in juicy purple, chemisette dresses created in collaboration with Petit Bateau (french masterminds of funcional childwear), sporty shirts with zips, cashmere pullovers (wrapped into tops for the illusion effect), leggings, tracker jackets and vinyl skirts for day and embroidered minidresses, elegant coats with graphic op-prints and long pleated skirts for the night. And because this is Miuccia, who works with Lotta Volkova for the styling of her Miu Miu shows and campaigns, let’s not forget about her main magic trick: the power of the contrast, that’s why the fashion power duo decided to mix mini skirts adorned with embroidered flowers with a white t-shirt, the most simple piece of clothing that everybody has in their wardrobe nowadays.
FACTORY OF NEWS
For the Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2025 fashion show, Miuccia Prada turned to Polish artist Goshka Macuga, who developed a specific installation at Palais d’Iéna with a head-turning name “Salt Looks Like Sugar”: this metaphor was chosen to give to the audience a taste of what they are going to see, a reflection on the complexity and deceptive nature of the truth when it’s quite hard to tell what is real. The installation itself was based on the idea of the newspaper factory: where all of the information goes to print, and where the one in charge decides what is true and what is false. To further the impact of the installation, Macuga imagined a single-prop newspaper, edited and designed for the show, titled “The Truthless Times”. And that’s not all: the newspaper comes with a short film written and directed by Goshka Macuga about its two correspondents Pathos (emotion) and Logos (logic and reason), who live dual lives as undercover researchers.
This installation will stay intact and will be available to visit during the Art Basel fair as part of the public program.
CASTING
This season, “Million Dollar Baby” star Hilary Swank joined the prestigious cast of Miu Miu girls. Other unexpected appearances included Alexa Chung, who tried herself as a catwalk model for the first time, and model-turned-actress Cara Delevigne, who gracefully marched on the runway to the Clara3000’s soundbites, smiling at the camera in her vinyl ensemble. And of course, the show dedicated to the hard news and the manipulation of the information would not have been complete without the ultimate Prada villain: Willem Dafoemade a guest appearance, closing the show, proving that the Miu Miu boys gang doesn’t age.
