It’s probably the year's most gorgeous and unexpected beauty launch: Bottega Veneta is debuting its first fragrance collection under creative director Matthieu Blazy. Inspired by Venice, Bottega Veneta’s city of origin, and its artisanal traditions, the new line features five unisex perfumes in Murano glass bottles with a marble base, a refillable art object made to last a lifetime. Breathtaking.
Here is everything you need to know about Bottega Veneta Perfumes.
Building Bridges
Inspired by Venice’s long-standing history as a hub of cross-cultural trade and encounters, Matthieu Blazy decided that every fragrance in the new line would be a meeting point of ingredients from different parts of the world. For instance, Alchemie marries Brazilian pink pepper with precious myrrh from Somalia, while Colpo di Sole blends the tranquil notes of French Angelica oil with sensual orange blossom absolute from Morocco. Meanwhile, Acqua Sale merges woody labdanum absolute from Spain with Macedonian juniper oil, Déjà Minuit weaves geranium from Madagascar with the spice of Guatemalan cardamom, and finally Come with Memixes the invigorating citrus of Italian bergamot with the powdery violet of French orris butter.
The Art Object
Passionate about arts and artisanal techniques, Matthieu Blazy wanted the new line to reflect the values that he built during his three-year tenure at the helm of the brand. So it comes as no surprise that the refillable bottle is made out of Murano glass, giving the spotlight to the Veneto region’s one-of-a-kind and centuries-long glassblowing tradition, and the House’s artisanal heritage. The wooden cap - which comes in a variety of eye-catching colours is also a nod to Venice, or more precisely to the wooden foundations of Venetian palaces which need to be raised when the waters rise. But that’s not all: the bottle comes with a marble base, made out of the same Verde Saint Denis stone used at the boutiques of Bottega Veneta all around the world. A masterpiece.
Why now?
Perfume fans definitely remember that Bottega Veneta did produce perfumes that were available worldwide. But composed by Coty under license, it was a different business affair. Now that Bottega Venta’s parent company Kering established a separate Beauty department in January 2023, all of the fragrances will be produced in-house with a new more exclusive, avant-garde and fashion-forward positioning, reflecting the values of each fashion and jewellery brand in Kering’s portfolio. As licenses run to the end, all of the Maisons of the group - think Gucci, Balenciaga, Saint Laurent or Boucheron - will reconsider their beauty strategies. Stay in the know for more.
