The Cannes Film Festival premiere of Mickaël Gamrasni’s new documentary “Olympiques! La France des Jeux” will bring the Olympic Flame to la Croisette on May 21.
Sport and cinema aficionados, behold. The Olympic flame will be having its glamorous moment during the 77th edition of the Festival de Cannes, before the screening of Michaël Gamrasni’s documentary film “Olympiques! La France des Jeux” scheduled for May 21. Narrated by Marion Cotillard, the movie traces back the history of the unique relationship of France with the Olympic movement and features comments from some 20 Olympic and Paralympic champions.
The Olympic flame, which started its prestigious Tour de France in Marseille on May 8, will make a guest appearance on the red carpet in the hands of Paralympic champion Arnaud Assoumani. Other guests invited to the screening include Tony Estanguet, Marie-José Pérec, Thierry Rey, Iliana Rupert, Marie Patouillet, Nélia Barbosa, Alexis Hanquiquant, Christine Caron and Brahim Asloum.
“What a joy it is to welcome such a host of Olympic stars,” said the official statement of Iris Knobloch, president of the Festival de Cannes, and Thierry Frémaux, general delegate. “We look forward to continuing to write the great history between sport and the Seventh Art, and to delving with as much fervour as happiness into a century of participation in the Olympic Games, which have left an indelible mark on our collective memory.”
The Cannes Film Festival is opening tonight with the world premiere of Quentin Dupieux’s “Le Deuxième Acte (The Second Act),” starring Léa Seydoux, Vincent Lindon, Louis Garrel and Raphaël Quenard, and will be running until May 25. Whereas, the Olympic flame will be back in Cannes on June 18 during the Olympic Torch Rally.
