The king of American Glamour, Michael Kors dedicated his Autumn-Winter 2024 collection to the concept of timeless elegance and presented an array of chic silhouettes with a New York state of mind.
On the last day of New York fashion week, for his autumn-winter collection Michael Kors took the former Barneys New York store space in Chelsea, turning the iconic spiral staircases into his runway.
“One of my hallmarks has always been fashion that stands the test of time,” that’s how Kors explained in his show notes why he chose to call this collection as simple as it is: “Timeless”. “And when we talk about what’s timeless and what endures—it’s quality, it’s simplicity, it’s sophistication, it’s clothes that make you feel confident and powerful”, he continued.
What did we see on the Barneys’ runway? His vision of a wardrobe every City girl needs that will never go out of style. Real clothes for real women to wear in their real lives. That’s the secret why so many fall for Kors’ collections, and once in love never stop buying it. A case in point, some of the most famous NYC girls, that we tend to call the A-list celebrities, were there in attendance to show Kors their endless support - think Blake Lively, Nina Dobrev, Brie Larson, Katie Holmes or Lady Eliza Spencer.
The collection was rich in curvy tailoring, white and blue shirts and pencil skirts - aspirational-but-grounded perfect ensembles for a day in between the meetings with business partners. But there were also amazing silhouettes for a night out in the City with friends, like little black dresses with lace details, silk slip dresses in gray and sequined turtleneck gowns. In need of chic frocks for a family brunch uptown? Enjoy casual chunky oversized sweaters styled with guipure skirts and flat sleek pumps. Or denim bias-cut skirts styled with knitted hoodies. And then there were also all types of dramatic outerwear. Highlights included tailored tweed coats, leather jackets adorned with hints of shearling details, lousy black and camel trenches, signature leopard coats and XXL cozy hooded fur coats.
Colorwise, for his “Timeless” collection, Michael Kors made a bet on an understated color palette, mixing warm hues of cappuccino, caramel and chocolate with crisp tones of midnight and ivory. The ensembles looked endlessly chic, but somehow super relevant and on point. As if the best silhouettes from the 1990s came back to life but with a laid-back casual attitude of today. You know, they say, we live in an era of quiet luxury. Well, it looks like this trend is about to stay with us for a while. And we don’t mind it!
A Kors show would not have been complete without his supermodels that represent his vision of the epitome of chic. A star-studded casting included Amber Valletta, Malgosia Bela, Alek Wek, Caroline Trentini, Irina Shayk, Ugbad Abdi, Guinevere van Seenus, Julia Nobis, Mariacarla Boscono, Liisa Winkler, Paloma Elsesser, who marched for Kors to some of his favorite tracks from Alicia Keys and Bobby Short. A quintessentially New York fashion moment, indeed.
