Saint Laurent Rive Droite Presents Exclusive Gio Ponti Exhibition for Milan Design Week

Saint Laurent Rive Droite is set to dazzle art and design enthusiasts with an exclusive collaboration featuring the works of iconic Italian architect Gio Ponti. Curated by Anthony Vaccarello, the exhibition will unveil a stunning plate collection inspired by Ponti's avant-garde Villa Planchart, in partnership with the Gio Ponti Archives and the Fundación Anala y Armando Planchart at Milan Design Week.

Constructed in 1953 for Anala and Armando Planchart, Villa Planchart stands majestically atop Caracas’s highest hill, encapsulating Ponti's vision of modernity with its light, butterfly-like structure. The residence’s colorful and inventive design, accompanied by expansive views, orchid collections, and artworks, mirrors Ponti's innovative spirit.

Ponti's attention to detail extended to the interior decoration of Villa Planchart, where he collaborated with exceptional Italian artisans, including the renowned Florentine manufacturer Ginori 1735. Ponti designed a set of porcelain tableware adorned with symbols and motifs representing the villa, such as the Sun, the Crescent Moon, the Polar Star, and elegant iterations of the letter “A” as an homage to Anala and Armando. These designs symbolize the harmonious blend of functional artistry and personal tribute.

This year, in a special partnership with Ginori 1735, Saint Laurent Rive Droite reissues twelve original plates from the Villa Planchart Segnaposto collection, originally crafted by Ponti in 1957. Each piece, hand-painted and traditionally made, embodies a storied past of artistic craftsmanship and design excellence.

These hand-painted, traditionally crafted decorative porcelain plates will be available at YSL.COM, Saint Laurent Rive Droite Los Angeles, Saint Laurent Babylone in Paris, and Saint Laurent’s flagship in Milan during the Design Week. Saint Laurent Rive Droite, located at 213 rue Saint-Honoré in Paris and extending to 469 Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles, is more than a retail space, it’s a cultural hub that reflects the ethos of the 1960s' democratization of fashion and luxury, offering an eclectic mix of exclusive items, cultural exchanges, and artistic events.

The Gio Ponti – Villa Planchart exhibition will welcome visitors from April 16th to 21st at the Chiostri Di San Simpliciano in Milan. This event promises to be a pivotal moment for aficionados of fashion, art, and design, showcasing the legacy of Gio Ponti and the enduring elegance of Saint Laurent.
