Naomi Osaka Shines in Her New Uniform Imagined by Nike And Yoon Ahn

Naomi Osaka is back in the game. For her return to the courts at the U.S. Open, she chose to be dressed in a custom-made uniform, created for her by fashion designer Yoon Ahn (you might know her name from her project Ambush) in collaboration with the sportswear giant Nike.

Osaka's two custom silhouettes feature one-of-one performance dresses in light green and classic black - for day and night, imagined for the exact specifications of the game, and matching walk-on skirts, jackets and sneakers embellished with larger-than-life and eye-catching bows.

“The inspiration that fueled the look for me — and this might be a Japanese term — is feeling like a 'magical girl' on the court,” Osaka explained in the press notes. “There’s a moment of transformation for me when I walk onto the court, and I have a lot of fun playing, so wanting everyone who sees the outfit to connect with that feeling is a really big motivation for me.”

This competition kit is part of a bigger apparel collection that Yoon Ahn created for Nike, inspired by high-school uniforms, but also the world of tennis. Perfect for those, who want to get back to sports after the summer holidays.

“We live in a girls’ world, and I wanted to embody that in Naomi’s on-court look as well as the collection,” Ahn shared her vision. “For Naomi’s look, she brought forward a vision and it was my job as a designer to create something that she'll feel confident and comfortable in when she walks onto the court, allowing her to bring 100% of herself. The collection is an extension of that idea, allowing women to bring out their character and enhance their own personal styles.”
